Lyrics

Sometimes this house feels like a prison
That I just can't leave behind
There's so many rules I got to follow
'Cuz you can't let go

I don't wanna hear it
And I just can't believe it
All the stupid things you say but

One day
I won't take this anymore
One day
I'll be old enough
To do what I want to
I won't  have to run away
And you won't be there to say I'm not allowed to
One day

Sometimes I wonder if you know me
Or if you just pretend to care
Tell me are you on a mission to bring me down?

Go away
Don't look at me
'Cuz we're not the same
And you can't do nothing
You can say
That it's not okay
But I'm not afraid
And you can't do nothing
Nanana...One day

Meaning

One Day happens to be my favorite song of the record cause I love the lyrics and I love the fact that we used acoustic guitars on it. It also happens to be one of the last that we wrote before heading into the studio.

I remember Chuck and I were at his parents' house, as usual. It was a sunny day and we were in the backyard catching some rays. Chuck told me he had an idea for a line like: "One Day I'll do what I want...one day I won't listen to you...etc", so we started working...

We wanted to write a song that had a different feel for the verse, but still had a hard-hitting chorus. It took us a few hours and by night time, the bulk of it was done. The one thing I'll never forget is how we wrote the bridge: it took us like 30 seconds. It just came out naturally, it was so weird! We only rehearsed once the next day before leaving for Toronto.

Then, when came the time to record it, Jeff and I worked on the acoustic guitar riff, and Chuck and I finished the lyrics together. I really feel strongly about the lyrics in this song cause they're all about telling your teachers and parents that one day you'll be your own person and that you won't have to listen to them anymore, and that's how I felt growing up.

I love playing this song live cause we get the crowd to clap to the beat and everybody gets into it. It's also rad cause it gives a different vibe to the show, and that's always good.

So there you have it, that's how we wrote one day and why I love it so much.
